CEs
Hey everyone. It's that time again to renew our RN licenses. For me and the rest of the new nurses it's the first time that you have to make sure you have 24. One way to get them is through your job. A lot of jobs offer inservices that count towards your CE credits. Also, your BLS and ACLS definitely count. If you realize its getting close and you need credits now a lot of nursing journals and magazines offer them, sometimes at a price which is generally reasonable. Also, they have conferences all the time, which generally can be used as a tax deduction towards employment. A great place to look for more information is allnurses.com. Also, once you get your credits make sure you keep your paperwork for at least five years since all audits are randomized.

Quality or quantity
A lot of times in healthcare you find a point where a patient is placed in a situation to decide if they will prolong their life by using extraordinary measures. As a person I can understand how hard it is to make a decision like that. As a nurse I can also see the results of these decisions. It's not for me to say whether or not a person should pursue these options. It's hard for me to understand how a person that is in certain conditions such as multi-organ failure already to choose operations that only allow them more time just to be stuck in a hospital bed for the rest of their extended time. I have seen people who are in advanced stages of dementia get open heart surgery and they don't even know they are on bought time. A lot of times after these measures are performed the patient is stuck in a place of such depression that they are unable or unwilling to participate in the treatment such as physical therapy. People don't realize that just because they are extending their life doesn't mean they are making it a better life. It actually becomes more complicated and harder to do the things they are used to be able to do in their regular life. Like I said before I can understand how hard this decision can be but at the same time I wish they can find out before what their life will be like afterward so they can make a more informed decision.

Stethoscopes
Hey everyone! This is my first posting on my blog. I have been a nurse for three years now and I just wanted to get started by telling you about a nurse's best friend. What I mean is that the most essential tool a nurse uses is her stethoscope. It is an important thing to have for everything from checking a patient's vital signs to listening to their heart and lungs. If a patient has a complaint like they are short of breath the first thing you do is listen to their chest. If your stethoscope is lost or stolen you are truly lost without it. That is why it is so important to own one of good quality. To not be able to distinguish breath sounds or check a patient's heart beat can be a crucial thing to your career. If you're interested in finding one of good quality you should visit my website at www.listentomyheartshop.com. You will definitely be able to find a stethoscope to fit your particular needs at an affordable price. In our crazy world of nursing you don't want to be caught without your best friend.
